Week 2: Mt. Rushmore

After we left Philmont and our new friends behind, we headed north toward Mt. Rushmore, via Colorado, Wyoming, and slight detour through Nebraska, and finally landing in Hot Springs, SD all in one day. We stopped to see Chimney Rock Monument along the way, but the highlight for Jackson and I was Kimball, Nebraska. Such a pretty little town!

On our way to Mt. Rushmore we stopped at Wind Cave and took a tour. It turned out pretty cool and Ressa earned another junior ranger bade. My favorite was that we went underground 2 miles and the average temp in the cave is 56 degrees. Nice!

Custer, South Dakota had these decorated bison all over town and Chad absolutely LOVED that I tried to take pictures of them all!

We stopped at Crazy Horse Monument and it was very impressive! Not finished, of course, but what an amazing story and process!

Seeing Mt. Rushmore has been on my Bucket List for many years and I was so excited to check this one off! It did not dissappoint at all! We had beautiful, clear weather and had an excellent day there! Here is Lauren hugging a tree to earn her junior ranger badge.

Even the rest stops were amazing! This one had a old fort used by a group looking for gold in the Black Hills in the 1800's.
